DAP rejects ‘backdoor government’ amid Negeri Sembilan crisis; affirms full support for Aminuddin

DAP rejects any attempt to form a backdoor government in Negeri Sembilan, affirming full support for Menteri Besar Aminuddin as the political crisis deepens.

PETALING JAYA: DAP has rejected any attempt to establish a “backdoor government” in Negeri Sembilan, as the state’s political crisis intensifies following the withdrawal of support by 14 Umno assemblymen.

Negeri Sembilan DAP Chairman Anthony Loke (pic) stated that the party would not sanction any move to form a new administration that bypasses the mandate provided by voters in the previous state election.

“I want to state clearly that DAP will not support any attempt to form a backdoor government. We reject any such effort,” said Loke, who is also the Chennah assemblyman, during a press conference in Seremban.

He emphasised that the current Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) administration was built upon a pre-election understanding and a clear electoral mandate.

“We contested the state election on the platform of the Unity Government. If any party now withdraws its support, it is, in our view, a failure to respect the will of the people of Negeri Sembilan,” he said.

Loke reaffirmed that all 11 DAP state assemblymen have pledged their unwavering support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

“His position remains until proven otherwise,” he said, adding that administrative continuity is vital to ensure development plans proceed without disruption.

Addressing the royal dispute that triggered the fallout, Loke clarified that DAP maintains a strict stance of non-interference, respecting the constitutional monarchy and Negeri Sembilan’s unique Adat Perpatih system.

While acknowledging that the Undang Yang Empat possess the authority under the State Constitution to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Loke stressed that such an action must adhere to rigorous due process, including a completed investigation.

“At this point, we are of the view that the process has not been finalised,” he said. Loke also confirmed that DAP and Pakatan Harapan continue to recognise Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the legitimate Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

Loke acknowledged that the administration is currently in a minority position with 17 seats, but insisted that the Menteri Besar’s standing must be decided through formal constitutional channels.

He said this could occur via a vote of no confidence in the State Legislative Assembly or a process involving the Ruler, citing the 2009 Perak constitutional crisis as a precedent.

He also revealed that today’s scheduled State Assembly sitting was postponed, allegedly at the request of Umno leaders.

“The Menteri Besar’s position can only be determined within the assembly. If a motion of no confidence is tabled and he loses majority support, he must then resign,” Loke added.

Until such a process takes place, he argued that the government must be allowed to function to maintain state stability.
