Sabah police confirm no official information on Peter Anthony’s reported parole, stating the matter falls under the Prisons Department’s jurisdiction.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police have not received any official notification regarding claims that Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) president Datuk Peter Anthony has been released on parole.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun stated that parole matters are under the jurisdiction of the Prisons Department.
“We have not received any official information from any party,” he told reporters at the launch of the Sabah Police Gallery.
He declined further comment, citing the lack of an official notice.
When asked if the individual would need to report to police, Jauteh said they would await guidance from the Prisons Department director.
Media reports had earlier claimed the former Sabah Infrastructure Minister was released on parole two weeks ago.
Peter Anthony is serving a three-year sentence at Kajang Prison for falsifying documents related to contracts at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
He was convicted and sentenced by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on May 26, 2022, and also fined RM50,000.
The Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal against the conviction and sentence on March 4, 2025, ordering him to begin his prison term immediately.
A subsequent review application was also rejected by the Court of Appeal on Aug 20, 2025, upholding the three-year sentence.
Peter Anthony won the Melalap state seat in the 2018 General Election and the 2020 State Election under a Parti Warisan ticket.
