Tunku Azizah officiates IIUM Sports Medicine Clinic at SASMEC @IIUM, marking a milestone in advancing specialised healthcare.

KUANTAN: Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah officiated the launch of the IIUM Sports Medicine Clinic (ISMEC) at Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre @ International Islamic University Malaysia (SASMEC @IIUM) here today.

Tunku Azizah, who is also the Constitutional Head of International Islamic University Malaysia, said the launch of ISMEC marked another important milestone in SASMEC @IIUM’s journey towards advancing specialised healthcare.

“It reflects the institution’s unwavering commitment to delivering comprehensive sports medicine services through prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and performance enhancement, while promoting healthier and more active communities,” she said in her speech.

The ceremony was held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary celebration of SASMEC @IIUM.

The celebration also marked the renaming of the SASMEC @IIUM’s Reproductive Unit as the Tunku Azizah Advanced Reproductive Unit SASMEC @IIUM (TiARA).

The Tengku Ampuan Pahang said she was honoured and humbled that the reproductive unit now bore her name, adding that the move represented a shared commitment to advancing reproductive healthcare.

“It is deeply meaningful to witness that aspiration come to fruition, and I regard this not merely as a personal honour, but as a shared commitment to advancing reproductive healthcare and bringing renewed hope to individuals and families on their journey towards parenthood,” she said.

Furthermore, Her Royal Highness also expressed appreciation to the government and the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) for their continued support towards the development of SASMEC @IIUM, particularly through the recent approval of the Psychiatry Ward under the Rolling Plan 1 of the 13th Malaysia Plan.

Tunku Azizah said she was pleased that the proposal to expand the hospital’s capacity from 300 to 600 beds, which she had previously proposed, was receiving a positive response from the ministry.

“It is my sincere hope that this important initiative will be realised soon, further strengthening SASMEC @IIUM’s capacity to meet the growing demand for specialised healthcare services while bringing lasting benefit to the people of Pahang, Malaysia and beyond,” she added.
