Iran restarts international flights from Mashhad airport on Monday, marking the first phase of reopening its airspace after closure due to war.
MASHHAD: Iran will resume international flights on Monday from Mashhad airport in the country’s northeast, according to its civil aviation authority.
State TV quoted the Civil Aviation Organisation as confirming that permission to operate international passenger flights at Mashhad Airport has been issued, starting tomorrow.
The official IRNA news agency later reported that travellers can now purchase tickets for international routes to and from Mashhad Airport.
Iranian airports have been closed since the outbreak of war with Israel and the United States on February 28.
The Civil Aviation Organisation had previously outlined a phased reopening of Iran’s airspace, beginning with transit flights followed by operations from eastern airports.
Airports in Tehran, namely Imam Khomeini and Mehrabad airports, are expected to reopen in the third phase of the plan.
Western airports are scheduled to resume operations in the final phase of the airspace reopening.
