Malaysia’s women’s recurve archery team clinched a special silver medal in their first SEA Games appearance, losing 3-5 to Indonesia in the final.

BANGKOK: The national women’s recurve archery team secured a special silver medal in their debut appearance at the SEA Games Thailand 2025.

The trio of Ariana Nur Dania Mohamad Zairi, Joey Xing Lei Tan and Ku Nurin Afiqah Ku Ruzaini lost 3-5 to Indonesia in the final at the Archery Range, Sports Authority of Thailand.

Ariana said the silver medal held great significance despite perceptions of insufficient preparation.

“This silver medal is very special to us,” she told Bernama.

“Although some felt that our preparations were lacking, I am very satisfied with this new team.”

She added that winning a medal on their first SEA Games appearance was not an easy feat.

Ariana later won a second silver medal in the mixed team recurve event with partner Muhammad Syafiq Busthamin.

The pair lost 2-6 to a Singaporean duo in their final.

Meanwhile, the national men’s recurve archery team claimed a bronze medal.

The team defeated hosts Thailand 5-3 in the third-place playoff.

The men’s team comprised Muhammad Zarif Syahir Zolkepli, Muhammad Syafiq, Muhammad Haiqal Danish Syamsul Afandi and Chern Xin Quik. – Bernama
