A recent social media post by “@MusytaqAshari” exposed a MLM scheme which allegedly targeted his mother, a laksa seller.
His outrage stemmed from her purchasing a pair of supposedly “health” pants for a staggering RM800.
The post (now deleted) revealed his mother’s friend convinced her to buy the pants and even join a sales group. The red flag? Recruiting others, a classic MLM tactic.
Furious, “@MusytaqAshari” denounced the exorbitant price and dubious health claims, finding support from netizens who shared similar MLM scam experiences.
His frustration was compounded by his mother’s sole income coming from her laksa stall. The hard-earned RM800 was gone, spent on overpriced “tights” as he called them.
Despite explaining the MLM scheme, his mother remained convinced of the pants’ benefits, leaving him helpless and frustrated.
This incident highlights the dangers of such schemes preying on vulnerable individuals.
These schemes target individuals with limited financial resources or those seeking quick fixes, often the elderly or those struggling financially.
Public education is crucial to raise awareness of the risks involved. Only through vigilance and knowledge can we protect our loved ones from falling victim to these exploitative schemes.
