RENTING out your property is actually a good way to earn a side income. If all goes well, the tenant will not just pay the rent on time but keep the house in a good condition as well.
Unfortunately, time after time again, we are entertained with horror stories of tenants not paying rent or leaving the rental house in an utter mess.
Recently, a Malaysian man took to Facebook to complain about how the tenants left his parent’s home in a state of disarray. Abdul Latif Ab Razak explained that his parents were the landlords and had rented out their house in Taman Cempaka, Ipoh to a local family.
According to his post, the tenants came from a difficult financial background so his kindhearted parents felt compelled to help them out by renting the home to them. However instead of thanking the owners by leaving the house in a good condition, the renters left the home in a complete mess.

In the photographs, the sink area could be seen clogged with garbage and covered with grime, the walls covered in scribbles, dead rats in the drain and the plastic chairs destroyed.
He added that even with the use of a waterjet, the stains could not be fully removed. Meanwhile for the floors, they had to resort to using a tiresome technique of using acid, chlorine and waterjet just to be able to get it clean.
“Instead of earning a passive income, this totally backfired. The cost accumulated from cleaning, rent arrears, electricity and water bill debt, not to mention fixing all the damages have reached RM6k.
“After this, I have to put aside the issue of feeling sorry for other people. See how it turned out when I thought of helping people in need,” said Abdul Latif.
The Facebook post has so far garnered 1.8K shares with netizens expressing their anger and disappointment on how the tenants took advantage of the homeowner’s kindness.
