THE high-speed car chases (and crashes), seemingly endless hail of bullets, razor-sharp banter and, of course, those fantastic stunts that made Bad Boys (1995) and Boy Boys II (2003) appealing are still there, even though the two leads are now portraying ageing Miami cops.

Mike Lowry (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) still bend the law to catch the bad guys, but Marcus confides in Mike that he wants to retire and spend time with his new grandson, which does not go down well with Mike.

However, all plans are put on hold when Mike is nearly taken out by a mysterious assassin. Mike is hellbent on revenge, and Marcus gets pulled back into action as they hunt down this mystery man.

Our duo are aided by a team of operatives (played by Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig and Charles Melton) from a special department called AMMO led by Mike’s old flame Rita (Paula Nunez).

The criminals are formidable as well. There is the ruthless Isabel (Kate Del Castillo) who believes she is a witch, and her dutiful – yet sometimes conflicted – son Armando (Jacob Scipio) who carries out her orders.

There are a few twists thrown our way to add to the drama, including the death of a popular character that will hit you emotionally.

On the whole, Bad Boys For Life is a great popcorn flick that looks like it still has momentum for a few more sequels.
