Selangor will enforce laws on illegal houses of worship, using a structured committee to ensure social harmony and orderly development.
BESTARI JAYA: The Selangor government will take legal action against illegally built houses of worship. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the approach would be prudent to ensure social harmony.
He stated that the Prime Minister’s recent directive would expedite existing state measures. Selangor already operates through the Selangor Five Religions Houses of Worship Committee (LIMAS).
“This structured system has been in place for a long time,” Amirudin said at a press conference. He added that dozens of enforcement actions have been recorded since 2015.
The state will refine its enforcement methods in line with the law. Local authorities are part of the committee, which considers land status, zoning, and community impact.
In Negeri Sembilan, local authorities have also been instructed to act. State committee chairman J. Arul Kumar stressed the importance of early and continuous enforcement.
He said prompt action prevents prolonged issues and future confusion. “If the construction of a new house of worship does not receive approval, action must be taken at an early stage.”
For long-existing structures, a consultative approach should be prioritised. This follows the federal government’s directive to ensure national safety and harmony.
