Malaysia’s Safe Internet Campaign expands to 10,000 schools by Q3 2025, with Cadet Captain Icons and improved broadband connectivity.
RAUB: The Safe Internet Campaign is scheduled to reach 10,000 schools across Malaysia by the middle of the third quarter next year.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed the campaign has already been implemented in 6,000 schools as of mid-October this year.
He expressed his hope for the campaign to cover all schools in Pahang and nationwide by the next year.
Fahmi announced the ministry will appoint Cadet Captain Icons to disseminate safe internet practices during weekly school assemblies.
These icons will provide updates on the latest online scams and government policy decisions such as social media restrictions for youths under 16.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will expand broadband connectivity through its Point of Presence project.
This project will commence at 170 schools in Pahang starting January after the recent completion of its tender process.
Seventeen schools in the state had already received connectivity under the project’s initial phase.
MCMC is also installing WiFi in selected schools to enhance internet access for both teachers and students.
Fahmi has further discussed installing CCTV cameras in schools with the Education Minister, prioritising Pahang’s boarding schools for immediate action. – Bernama
