Works Ministry calls for proposals on ANPR toll system, part of Multi-Lane Free Flow implementation expected to be finalised next year.
BUALIK PULAU: The automatic number plate recognition toll collection system has reached the Request for Proposal stage, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He announced the Works Ministry is inviting all interested parties to submit proposals for the barrier-free toll system implementation.
“This forms part of strategic measures towards a more efficient Multi-Lane Free Flow system,” he told reporters after visiting a slope repair project.
Nanta explained they are applying business-to-business methods and remain open to proposals from interested parties.
The barrier-free toll system implementation is expected to be finalised next year to avoid rushing the process.
“We need to pay close attention to details given its major implications for various parties,” he emphasised.
The ANPR system identifies vehicle registration numbers via cameras for digital toll payments without cash.
It also offers e-invoice displays, transaction verification, and various mobility services through an integrated digital platform.
Users only need to register online using personal identification, vehicle details, and preferred payment methods.
Nanta revealed the ministry conducted comprehensive studies by reviewing Intelligent Transport Systems implementation in developed countries.
“I just returned from Korea with representatives from the Public Works Department and Works Ministry,” he said.
The ministry has visited several countries multiple times to observe their ITS implementations. – Bernama
