Man detained over 3R social media posts in Seremban

Police and MCMC arrest a man for allegedly posting insulting content on Threads touching on 3R issues.

SEREMBAN: Police, in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, detained a man today on suspicion of uploading posts containing insults and touching on the 3R issues (religion, race and royal institution) on the Threads application.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the 52-year-old man was detained at 1 pm at the Seremban district police headquarters (IPD) to assist in the investigation, and a mobile phone belonging to him was seized for further investigation.

“The police received a report regarding a post uploaded on social media that contained statements of an insulting nature and touched on the sensitivities of the Negeri Sembilan royal institution yesterday.

“Preliminary investigations found that the post was uploaded on July 17, and the complainant only became aware of its existence the next day before filing a police report,” he said in a statement here today.

He said the man will be brought to the Seremban Court tomorrow for a remand application under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Alzafny also advised the public to use social media wisely and refrain from making or spreading any statements that could touch on the 3R issues, thereby disrupting public order.
