FAM condemns attack on sportswriter, calls for investigation

Football Association of Malaysia strongly condemns assault on journalist Haresh Deol, urges police investigation into Bangsar attack

KUALA LUMPUR: The Football Association of Malaysia has strongly condemned the attack on sportswriter Haresh Deol in Bangsar.

FAM acting president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi stated that violence, intimidation or threats against journalists are completely unacceptable.

“Any aggressive actions or attempts to obstruct journalists from carrying out their professional duties are completely unacceptable,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Yusoff emphasized that such actions do not reflect the spirit of sportsmanship and integrity championed by the national football body.

He expressed hope that authorities would conduct a comprehensive investigation to identify those responsible.

The FAM president also pledged continued cooperation with media practitioners to ensure a safe working environment.

Haresh, who serves as National Press Club deputy president and co-founder of news portal TwentyTwo13, was attacked by two men while heading to his car.

He reported on social media platform X that another individual recorded the incident using a mobile phone.

Brickfields police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook confirmed police are tracking down three men believed involved in the Jalan Maarof incident.

The attack occurred near a shopping mall parking lot while Haresh was walking on the sidewalk towards Jalan Telawi. – Bernama
