Youth activist Miha named BN candidate for Lamag by-election

Barisan Nasional selects youth activist Miha as its candidate for the Lamag state seat, aiming to strengthen unity and political stability in the Kinabatangan area.

KOTA KINABALU: Youth activist Mohd Ismail Ayob, better known as Miha, has been nominated as the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Lamag state by-election.

Sabah BN chairman Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the selection aligns with the need for young leaders and the party’s political governance requirements.

He stated that Miha’s nomination is an institution-based strategy to strengthen cooperation and ensure development continuity.

“This nomination is an institution-based political strategy to strengthen comprehensive cooperation, bridge political divides and ensure the continuity of the people’s development agenda,” said Jafry.

Mohd Ismail, 44, contested as an independent in Lamag in the recent state election but lost to the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

The Lamag seat fell vacant following the death of Bung Moktar, who was also Sabah BN chairman, on Dec 5.

The Election Commission has set polling day for the Lamag by-election on Jan 24, with nominations on Jan 10.

Jafry said strengthening BN’s position in Kinabatangan is a strategic necessity for political stability and public well-being.

He added this aligns with the Unity Government’s spirit of prosperity and consensus-based governance.

Meanwhile, Kinabatangan UMNO Youth chief Mohd Naim Kurniawan Moktar was named the BN candidate for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election.

Jafry said this selection meets the party’s needs for organisational legitimacy and grassroots acceptance.
