“Where am I supposed to find an extra RM1,000 in a month like this?”

A Malaysian woman has sparked debate online after sharing her RM1,000 financial dilemma involving her family’s upcoming wedding celebration.

In a post on Threads, she revealed that her younger sibling is planning to hold a wedding reception after Hari Raya, combined with her brother’s child’s aqiqah ceremony.

However, the celebration has come with an unexpected request.

“Now my mum is asking me to contribute RM1,000.”

“The problem is I’m really tight on money right now. My savings are gone and my salary is just enough to get by.

“Where am I supposed to find an extra RM1,000 in a month like this?”

Her post quickly gained attention, with many netizens questioning why she was being asked to contribute in the first place, especially when she is already struggling financially.

One user, @husna.f__, commented: “No need to support. Ask your mother to give extra support.”

Another, @mardiahmusa6, simply asked: “Why you need to chip in?”

Meanwhile, @nsyoori wrote bluntly: “Someone else wants to get married, but someone else has to sponsor it.”

A particularly frustrated commenter, @lifewith.ada, shared: “I really don’t understand parents like this. I’ve read so many cases where someone else wants to get married and have a ceremony, but other people are told to give money. Hey! Let the ones who want to get married and hold the event settle their own matters. Why should others have to bear the cost? Ugh, it makes me so angry!”
