A child opening a car door caused a six-vehicle crash on Jalan Tun Razak, injuring two motorcyclists, with police investigating under careless driving laws
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have identified a child accidentally opening a car door as the cause of a six-vehicle collision on Jalan Tun Razak last Friday.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred around 6.15 pm.
It involved four cars and two motorcycles travelling from the Kampung Pandan Roundabout towards KLCC.
Preliminary investigations found a two-year-old girl, seated on a relative’s lap, opened the left rear door.
The child safety lock was believed to be not activated at the time.
A Suzuki V-Strom SX motorcycle rider collided with the open door and lost control.
This initial crash caused a collision with several other vehicles.
Another motorcyclist on a CFMOTO 675 NK also failed to avoid the incident and was involved.
The 25-year-old Suzuki rider sustained a fractured left arm and is receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The 30-year-old CFMOTO rider suffered minor injuries in the collision.
Drivers of the four cars—a Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda City, Volkswagen Polo, and Perodua Bezza—were not injured.
Police are investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
They have requested witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to assist investigations.
