The latest warning marks the third heatwave alert issued for parts of Sarawak in less than two months.
KUCHING: Four districts in Sarawak have been placed under a Level One heatwave alert after recording daily temperatures above 35°C for three consecutive days, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
The affected districts are Sibu and Kapit in central Sarawak, as well as Marudi and Lawas in the northern region of the state.

“The four districts in Sarawak have been placed on a Level One temperature alert.
“Daily temperatures in these areas have ranged between 35°C and 37°C continuously over the past three days,” the department said in its latest daily temperature report.

The department also noted a decline in rainfall across several districts in central and northern Sarawak, conditions that could contribute to prolonged dry weather and increase the risk of bushfires and open-burning incidents.
Last month, on May 22, multiple areas in Sarawak were placed on heatwave alert following a surge in temperatures across the state.
A similar warning was also issued on April 27, when temperatures of between 35°C and 37°C were recorded in parts of northern Sarawak amid a series of wildfires that affected air quality and caused environmental damage in several locations.
The recurring hot and dry conditions come as authorities continue to monitor wildfire risks across the state. Earlier this year, Sarawak experienced numerous forest and peatland fires, including a major blaze in Tatau district that burned for 11 days and destroyed hundreds of hectares of forest.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay hydrated, minimise prolonged outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, and remain vigilant against open burning or activities that could trigger fires during the dry spell.
Meteorologists are continuing to monitor weather conditions closely, particularly in districts experiencing reduced rainfall and persistently high temperatures.
