75 Orang Asli families cut off by flood in Pahang receive aid

Flood-stranded Orang Asli families in Muadzam Shah receive food packs and boats, with calls for better infrastructure to aid the community.

MUADZAM SHAH: A total of 75 Orang Asli families in Kampung Jubau and Langkap Lama have received essential aid after being cut off by floods since Monday.

Pahang Islamic Religious Affairs, Rural Development and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad said the aid comprised food packs.

The packs contained rice, cooking oil, sugar, coffee, flour, canned sardines, biscuits, and instant noodles.

The community also received two fibre boats to facilitate movement in the flood-hit areas.

“I am here to convey the compassion and sympathy of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, with assistance coordinated by the Pahang Orang Asli Corporation (Oraco),” he said.

Syed Ibrahim said greater attention must be given to infrastructure and facilities to improve the community’s well-being.

This includes the construction of higher roads and bridges, as well as improvements in housing, economic activities and education.

He also expressed his deepest appreciation to the agencies involved in the relief effort.

These included the Bukit Ibam state assembly coordinator and the Muadzam Shah district police headquarters.

Other agencies were the Department of Orang Asli Development, the Civil Defence Force, and the Fire and Rescue Department.
