Malaysian volunteer team concludes five-day flood rescue operation in Hat Yai, Thailand after Thai military declares areas dangerous
SUNGAI PETANI: A Malaysian volunteer team has concluded its five-day operation to rescue Malaysians stranded by floods in Hat Yai, Thailand.
The 45-member team ended its mission last night after extensive rescue efforts.
Sungai Petani Volunteer Fire Department head Leong Beng Tat said volunteers from Johor, Perak, Selangor and northern states will return home today.
“Several locations have been declared dangerous areas by the Thai military and are not allowed to enter,” he explained when contacted.
Leong confirmed some Malaysian victims remain in affected areas but rescue operations cannot continue due to safety restrictions.
“Any new requests for assistance from now on will be channeled to the Thai military and police for further action,” he added.
He praised all volunteers for showing high commitment throughout the operation.
The team ensured stranded Malaysians received necessary help during the flood crisis. – Bernama
