Russian toddler dies after box jellyfish sting at Langkawi beach

A two-year-old Russian boy died after being stung by a box jellyfish while swimming at Chenang Beach in Langkawi, succumbing to severe injuries

ALOR SETAR: A two-year-old Russian boy died after being stung by a jellyfish while swimming at a popular Langkawi beach.

Vladimir, son of Nikita Iakubanets, 32, passed away at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah this morning after four days of treatment.

The boy was pronounced dead at 9.46 am due to poisoning from the jellyfish sting, which caused his heart to stop.

Doctors confirmed the injuries on his legs were caused by a box jellyfish, describing them as very severe.

Nikita expressed gratitude to the HSB medical team, stating they had done their best to save his son.

The incident occurred last Saturday morning while the family was swimming together at Chenang Beach.

Their child suddenly screamed in pain, prompting his mother Olga to carry him to shore and attempt rescue breathing.

He was initially taken to a nearby clinic before being referred to Hospital Sultanah Maliha in Langkawi.

Vladimir was transferred to HSB the following day for further treatment.

This was the family’s first visit to Malaysia, having arrived on November 14 with plans to stay until November 26.

Olga said they plan to cremate their son and bring his ashes home to Khabarovsk, Russia.

“Our son is our hero. He is our little angel,” she said, recalling their daily exchanges of love. – Bernama
