Veteran TV director Haris Kadir passes away at 60

Veteran Malaysian TV drama director Haris Kadir, known for landmark series like ‘Manjalara’, has died at 60 after battling lung cancer.

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran television drama director Haris Kadir has died at the age of 60.

The Malaysian Film Directors Association (FDAM) confirmed his passing early this morning at Ampang Hospital.

FDAM secretary-general Faizal Ariff said Kadir died at approximately 5 am after a battle with lung cancer.

“He had been hospitalised for some time,” Faizal told Bernama.

FDAM chairman Datuk Afdlin Shauki described the loss as profound for the nation’s arts industry.

“He was instrumental in raising the stature of TV drama directors,” Afdlin said.

Afdlin praised Haris as a pioneering figure who created opportunities for subsequent generations of directors.

Born in 1966, Haris Kadir leaves behind a celebrated artistic legacy.

His landmark works include the series ‘Manjalara’, ‘Misi Anak Bulan’, ‘Cinta Ibadah’, and ‘Bukan Kerana Aku Tak Cinta’.

He also directed the popular telemovie series ‘Bila Hati Telah Hitam’.
