Malaysia to host 26 nations at the 2026 Sepak Takraw World Cup in May, featuring premier and division one contests across multiple events.
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 26 countries will participate in the 2026 Sepak Takraw World Cup from May 12 to 24.
Sepak Takraw Federation of Malaysia (PSM) president, Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said 14 countries will compete in the premier division while the rest will be in division one.
“For the primary division, the events contested are quadrant, regu and team regu while division one only has two events, namely regu and quadrant,” he said in a press conference.
He listed Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore as premier division teams, along with promoted nations Iran and Taiwan.
Division one competitors include the United States, Poland and France.
Sumali announced there is no limit set for countries to enter all events in their respective divisions.
“So I expect this World Cup to be more lively and all participating countries can enter all the events contested in their respective divisions,” he said.
He expressed optimism that Malaysia will organise the tournament well as host.
The Titiwangsa Stadium will again be the venue, as it was for last year’s Asian Cup and the 2024 World Cup.
In the last World Cup in Bihar, India, Malaysia won three bronze medals in the men’s doubles and the women’s singles and quadrant events.
Malaysia did not participate in the men’s singles and team singles events as they were not contested in the premier division.
